US Lacrosse
New Age Segmentation

US Lacrosse has recommended the adoption of "Age-based Segmentation" for associations instead of "Grade-based Segmentation" starting in 2017.  In the past, MSLax has not been a proponent of changing to the "U" based system because it did not have a clear delineation between youth and high school.  There was always confusion about what to do with girls in ninth grade.  The new program is now a clear-cut division with 14U designated as youth and anything over 14U is high school.  Since we do not have enough girls for single-based levels (ie 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, etc.) we are following the recommendation of using even-year grouping (i.e. 10U, 12U, 14U, etc.) that US Lacrosse recommended.  This is in line with boys lacrosse age-based levels in Minnesota.

Levels for 2017 are as follows:

10U – Girls born between 9/1/2006 – 8/31/2008 (formerly 3rd-4th grade)
12U – Girls born between 9/1/2004 – 8/31/2006 (formerly 5th-6th grade)
14U – Girls born between 9/1/2002 – 8/31/2004 (formerly 7th-8th grade)
18U – Girls born between 9/1/1998 – 8/31/2002 (formerly U19)

One-Time Birth Certificate Download
Parents will also be required to do a one-time download of a players birth certificate when renewing or signing up for a US Lacrosse membership.  This will also ensure that players are at the correct level.  As always, MSLax allows for waivers from girls with extenuating circumstances.
